II. Uses:

 Rosin is a kind of natural organic matter, it is composed of various resin acids. It is easily soluble in various organic solvents. Rosin is an important raw material for fertilizer, papermaking, coating, rubber, resin, organic synthesis, etc.

III. Physical properties:

Appearance: yellow brittle solid. Color: light yellow to red. Solubility: insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents. Softening point: 72-80℃. Relative density: 1.070-1.085. Average thermal capacity (20-245℃): average thermal capacity (20-245℃). Expansion coefficient of molten rosin: 0.00055. Heat of fusion: 15.8kcal/kg. Heat value: 9074-9171kcal/kg. Boiling point: 250℃/5 mmHg. Heat conductivity coefficient: 0.11 kcal/(m.h.℃). Ignition point of mist dust:130℃. Flash point: 216℃ Lower explosive limit: 12.6g/m3.

V. Application:

5.1 Most rosins are directly used in papermaking, paint, soap, and soap.

 

5.2Rosin is commonly used as softener in rubber industry, and it can empower rubber with plasticity.

5.3Rosin can be used as adhesive component for rubber base adhesive, synthetic resin base adhesive and plant component adhesive.

5.4Rosin size and alum were firstly used in papermaking sizing since 1807 by Illig, then papermaking industry had become one of the largest consumption units of rosin.

5.5Rosin is easily soluble in alcohol, gasoline, turpentine and other organic solvents, thus it is one of the basic raw materials for paint.

5.6Rosin can be used in ink industry as chromatophore.

5.7To produce chewing gum by heating hydrogenated glycerol ester of rosin, chicle, wax, vinyl acetate to molten, then adding spice, sugar, and pigment.

5.8Rosin can be used in cable industry as insulating material for its excellent electric insulation property.

5.9Main ingredient of rosin--abietic acid can be used in compounding a series of optically active and bioactive substances.

5.10Rosin can be used in metal processing industry as soldering flux and metal polishing agent.
